Iran leaves footprint on Oscar nom

Noted Iran cinematographer Ali Farahani has left his footprint on Oscar nominated film ‘The Silent Child’, filming the short led by Chris Overton.

‘The Silent Child’ centers around a profoundly deaf four year old girl named Libby who is born into a middle class family and lives in a world of silence until a caring social worker teaches her the gift of communication.

Farahani was in charge of shooting the short film which has gone a long way already, nominated for Oscars 2018.

‘The Silent Child’ is a British short film written by and starring Rachel Shenton and directed by Chris Overton, and released in 2017.

Speaking to local media recently, Ali Farahani, described by Overton as “nothing short of a genius”, said he was offered to photograph ‘The Silent Child’ after his work on a research documentary about people with hearing and speech difficulties in the UK.

“The film’s Oscar nomination will increase the audience's awareness of the subject matter and create a new opportunity for societies’ attitude toward people with hearing and speech difficulties,” Farahani said.
